Academics

Our curriculum is thoughtfully crafted to achieve a harmonious equilibrium, embracing both a robust, universally applicable structure that benefits all children and the adaptability to tailor educational experiences within the classroom, catering to the distinct needs of each child.

Sri sai vidya vihar, Aluva, offers a curriculum which is uniquely designed to be developmentally, culturally, linguistically and socially relevant to early learners. It inculcates in children the qualities of curiosity, exploration and discovery in a fun-filled, safe and happy learning environment. Our curriculum considers the need for all children to be exposed to all domains of development – physical and motor, language, cognitive, social and emotional – so no single domain takes precedence over any other.

Singing, rhyming and reciting are some strategies employed in the Language Arts and the Phonics Programme. Activity areas or learning centres are set up in the classroom, with resources that actively engage children to learn about particular themes or topics. They provide opportunities to create, draw, manipulate, discover, explore, learn new skills, and to make mistakes.

At the school, the emphasis is on developing in students, self-confidence and the ability to effectively communicate in English. We are mindful of children being allowed to develop at their own pace, with an advanced pedagogy and curricula that enable children to direct their own learning.Teachers ensure this through effective use of language and by encouraging children to express themselves freely.Children are active partners with their socio-cultural environment, interacting with teachers and peers. Our curriculum is a well-balanced curriculum that contributes to early care and education, helping the young minds to integrate their learning across subject areas.

The emphasis is on exploring, knowing, understanding and forming their own ideas. The principles of learning applied in Kindergarten include Holistic Development and Learning (Aesthetics and Creative Expression, Language and Literacy, Numeracy, Self and Social Awareness); Integrated Learning; Active Learning; Supportive Learning; Interactive Learning and Learning through Play. The curriculum prepares children for a smooth transition to a more formal Primary curriculum.

The Kindergarten Programme makes use of a range of individual and group activities which create a lively and positive learning environment. These activities are designed to focus on building concepts and strengthening competencies and skills. Children are provided opportunities to demonstrate curiosity and creativity to learn new concepts and build on existing ones.Math is an important component of our early childhood education.

The use of manipulative, pictures and symbols, which are a great way to make math fun and engaging, connect abstract concepts to real-world objects and help to reinforce preschool math concepts in the classroom.Games, songs, creative projects, story-telling, role-play, drawing, and painting help develop children’s foundational skills in literacy and numeracy.

Sri sai vidya vihar, Aluva , offers the Primary School Programme that has been designed to develop within students an equal measure of content knowledge, skill application and attitude building. The curriculum encourages students to engage in authentic inquiry, exploration and creative problem-solving skills.

It challenges them to inquire, explore, experiment, deliberate on divergent views, and integrate knowledge gained in other subject areas to real-life situations.

It develops children’s competence in various skills – reading, writing, listening, speaking, problem-solving, collaboration, communication, observation, measurement and the use of information and communication technology.

Besides a strong emphasis on these fundamental skills, there is also a drive towards originality, creativity and independence of thought.

The Primary School curriculum offers an exciting and creative learning environment, with an inter-disciplinary appreciation of Languages, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies, as individual and integrated subjects.

We recognize the twenty-first century demands of high standards of linguistic ability and we help our students acquire the linguistic competence required in various life situations.

Mathematics at our school provides an effective way of building mental discipline and encourages logical reasoning and mental rigor.

Other subjects in our curriculum provide opportunities for experiential learning through hands-on projects, experiments, collaborative activities and more. Connections built between course topics and other subjects, ensure relevant integration. The learning process inspires students to obtain a deeper knowledge of the subjects and in the process, students also hone their organizational and research skills, and develop better communication with their peers and adults.

The Middle School Programme at Sri sai vidya vihar is structured to meet children’s varied intellectual and developmental needs. The curriculum builds on concepts and skills learnt in the Primary School. It ensures progression and continuity across various stages of learning in the School, and incorporates continuous evaluation and review of children’s performance.

The main aims of the Programme are developing skills related to writing, reading, reflecting, critical thinking, public speaking, fostering initiative among students and a desire to acquire knowledge. Academic subjects include English, Hindi/Malayalam, Mathematics, Science, History, and Geography. Art, Computer Studies, Music, Yoga and Dance are integrated into the mainstream curriculum to offer different dimensions to the curriculum.

  • Assessments and evaluations are essential to gauge the progress of the students and to encourage them to find their strengths and weaknesses. The method used to assess student progress varies according to the age group.
  • Students of Std. V-X are assessed as per the CCE format prescribed by the CBSE Board. This system of continuous classroom evaluations consists of oral and written class tests, worksheets, presentations, assignments, activities and projects.
  • The CCE format ensures a consistent and systematic approach to academics and enables the students to thrive in a stress free atmosphere at home and at school.
  • Students of Std. XI-XII are also continuously evaluated on the basis of their performance in the class tests and term exams in an academic year. Prior to the Std. XII CBSE board exam, a Model Exam is also conducted to equip the students to face the Board Exam with equanimity.
  • All promotions are based on the cumulative performance of the student in all the class and continuous evaluations conducted during the academic year.
  • Therefore all students must ensure that they do not miss any of the evaluations.
  • Std. XI students must pass in both theory and practical’s separately in order to be promoted.
  • No retest will be given for any examination.
  • Decisions taken by School authorities with regard to promotion will be final and binding.
  • The backbone of our learnt curriculum is authentic assessments, which require students to apply new knowledge and skills in a practical way. The learning objectives are clearly stated throughout the curriculum and help students achieve the outcomes as a result of the education.
